Artist bio
My artwork is a contemplative nod to my childhood. Often my subject matter seems quite unrelated, however, the cohesive threads are memories held within my soul. Having lived my entire life in South Carolina with a love of photography and history, I incorporate things which touch my heart. I remember looking through old photographs of family with my mom and grandmother. I was told about people related to me whom I would never meet in this life. Through the pictures, I learned their taste in clothes and cars; where they lived and how. I learned even more through the stories and conversations sparked by the memories of those who were with me. The history within pictures capture a moment in time which will never be again. I grasped the realization that photography was truly art when I felt a photograph take me places beyond myself. When I felt expansive and small in the same instant. When I was drawn to the same photograph dozens of times and uncovered a fresh nuance with each visit. My desire is that, when you look at my photographs - no matter where you grew up, you will find a connection, a memory, or create one anew. My process in creating my images is to find beauty in the common - to capture that moment in time which will never manifest again. Whether it be a sunrise, a bird, a building, a hand, or a face. Sometimes my photographs are realistic, while others are more symbolic. I have done my job as an artist if my work brings to mind memories shaped by your own life’s journey. My hope is that you will visit them time and again and that with each, your heartstrings will hum a new song. The Nikon D7300 is currently my camera of choice using a variety of lenses to create my desired effects. My post processing is done on an IMAC using primarily Lightroom with both manual adjustments and custom presets.
